Scottish Housing Day is taking place on Wednesday 16th September and this year, housing organisations are being encouraged to think about the value of social housing in their work. As Scotland’s housing information and advice charity for disabled people, older adults and members of the Armed Forces community, we help countless clients to access social housing each year. To mark the occasion of Scottish Housing Day then, we thought we would reflect on the fantastic support we receive from our volunteer Housing Buddies who help us to support our clients.

Whether it’s advising on social housing stock in their local area, helping clients fill out applications for social housing, offering catch up calls to clients or accompanying brokers to client meetings and appointments, our Housing Buddies are a fantastic help who ensure that we can support as many people as possible.

All week, we’ll be promoting the different ways our Housing Buddies have supported the staff team over the past year – from short biographies of each volunteer, to case studies and in depth interviews, we’re excited to be sharing more about our fantastic volunteers this week.

Thinking about the support our volunteer Housing Buddies offer, Housing Options Scotland CEO Moira Bayne said:

“2 heads are better than 1, a problem shared is a problem halved” – these may be clichés but they very accurately reflect the experience we all have with our fabulous Housing Buddies. It’s a privilege to be able to get their expert opinion, advice and company.
