Last week, our Head of Engagement, Pedro, and two of our Housing Options Brokers, Ryan and Greg, went to CIH Scotland’s Housing Festival. The Festival brought together housing professionals from across Scotland to discuss, debate and engage with current housing topics. Hear more about what Pedro, Ryan and Greg got up to below.

On the first day, Pedro and Ryan spoke as part of the ‘How diverse is it anyway?’ campfire-style session. Ryan was able to draw on his work experience to contribute to the important discussions surrounding EDI in the housing sector.

“I was thrilled and honoured to be asked to contribute to a panel discussion about equality, diversity and inclusion in Scotland’s Housing Sector. The session was filled with great discussion and debate and the passion that everyone had for increasing equality, diversity and inclusion in the housing sector was clear. It was fantastic to be able to draw upon my experience from working at HOS and my previous work at Clyde Valley Housing.  After the session, it was really beneficial to be able to learn from colleagues across the sector about the ways that they had embedded equality diversity and inclusion in their organisations” Ryan, Housing Options Broker

On the second day, Pedro hosted the second live recording of the award-winning podcast Equality in Housing. Alongside CaCHE’s Dr Gareth Young, Pedro chatted to Rhiannon Sims, Senior Policy Officer at Crisis (the podcast recording will be available next month!).

“It was great to be amongst colleagues in the sector for a lively couple of days of discussions and talks. Thank you to CIH Scotland for giving me the space to talk EDI on both days of the festival – and for giving us a platform for the Equality in Housing podcast. It’s clear there’s an appetite for change and for collaborative working and it was encouraging to be in the space with so many passionate, talented professionals and policymakers” Pedro, Head of Engagement

For Greg, the Festival was a great opportunity to network with peers in the sector and meet acquaintances old and new.

“I recently attended my first CIH Housing Festival in Glasgow along with two of my colleagues. Over the two days, I visited many if not all of the exciting exhibits including the Housing Diversity Network, TIS and the SFHA stands, allowing me to catch up with old acquaintances.

The highlights for me were attending the Equality in Housing Podcast (of course) presented by our very own Pedro Cameron and the Roundtable even, An Aging Population, presented by Professor Vikki McCall, Stirling University.” Greg, Housing Options Broker

They’re all looking forward to the next Housing Festival!
