Housing Options Scotland are excited to announce that we have received two Veterans’ Foundation grants of £19,848 and £20,548 for our Military Matters housing brokerage service and Military Matters volunteering programme, respectively.

Made possible by this generous funding, Military Matters provides information, advice and support to disabled veterans and their families on private renting, social renting, home ownership and adaptations in all 32 local authorities of Scotland. The Veterans’ Foundation grant also allows us to develop and expand our Veteran Volunteers project which offers peer support to clients and helps with ‘aftercare’ once a housing solution has been identified.

As CEO Moira Bayne describes, these services are now needed more than ever:

“The number of military clients accessing our service increased by 127.4% last year. Without funding to resource the brokerage service and support our Veteran Volunteer team, we would not be able to continue the important work we do supporting members of the Armed Forces community to find the Right Home in the Right Place. With such an upsurge in people needing our help, we are more motivated than ever to help Veterans across Scotland who are in housing difficulty.”

Commenting on the grant award, she said:

“We are very grateful to the Veterans’ Foundation for their support, and it is humbling to have our work recognised by trustees. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience in housing which we are ready to share with more clients, and we are excited about the opportunities we have to further develop our volunteer programme, offering an additional layer of support to those who get in touch with us.”
