We are delighted to be working on a creative commission with students on the Young Enterprise programme ‘Happy Home Ayrshire’, based in the Art, Design & Technology Faculty at Stewarton Academy in Kilmarnock.
The students have been commissioned to produce a limited run of wooden coasters featuring the new Housing Options Scotland logo for us to use as promotional items to distribute to guests on our national roadshow events across Scotland in October.
Two of the programme’s students Haytham Najim and Orrie Brown attended our roadshow event at the Western House Hotel in Ayr on Wednesday 7 October to launch the products and talk to our guests about the collaboration.
Orrie, who is in S5, described the coasters as ‘classy’ and Haytham, S6, said that the live project with Housing Options Scotland provided “great experience of learning about a charitable organisation, and how product design can help raise a charity’s profile.”
Housing Options Scotland’s Operations Manager Fionn Henshaw said: “We’re really impressed with the quality of the product the students have designed for us. The coasters are beautifully finished in varnished oak, and guests to our tour are going to be very happy if they’re lucky enough to go home with one.”
The coasters will be with us at our forthcoming tour dates in Glasgow (Wednesday 21 October) and Edinburgh (Wednesday 28 October).
As well as accepting commissions from businesses and charities, Happy Home Ayrshire, welcomes commissions from individuals looking to create bespoke items for their home. They can produce items in wood such as coasters, mounted key holders and pet food bowl stands, as well as unique items made from recycled vinyl including bespoke wall clock designs. Students in the two-year programme can specialise in finance, graphics, design and marketing and gain real world experience in a commercial environment.
