Accessibility statement

This statement applies to housingoptionsscotland.org.uk. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

Using this website

You should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen
  • move around the website using just a keyboard, with a “Skip to content” link at the top of every page
  • see clearly which link or button you are on when using a keyboard
  • read text that has good contrast against its background
  • use the website with animations reduced, if you have set that on your device
  • choose when a film starts playing, as nothing plays by itself

Accessibility help on every page

The “Accessibility help” button at the top of every page opens the Recite Me toolbar. You can use it to have pages read aloud, change text size, fonts and colours, use reading aids such as a ruler and screen mask, and translate pages into other languages.

AbilityNet also has advice on making your device easier to use at mcmw.abilitynet.org.uk.

What isn’t fully accessible yet

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Many of our PDF documents, such as guides, reports and research papers, have not been checked for accessibility and may not work well with a screen reader.
  • Our films on YouTube have captions that we have added ourselves. Our client story films have a transcript on the same page, and our “What to expect” film has its script below it. Our films do not have audio description.
  • Our Get Help form is run on a separate system by another supplier, and it was not part of our testing.
  • Donations are taken by Donorbox on its own website, which we do not control.
  • A small number of links in our news posts use wording such as “here”, which may not make sense out of context.

If you need information in a different format or have a problem

How accessible this website is

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA. This website partially meets that standard. The parts that do not meet it are listed under “What isn’t fully accessible yet”.

How we tested this website

The website was tested by the team who built it. We ran automated checks against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard on every type of page before the website launched, and again on 2 October 2026. We also checked by hand that the website works with a keyboard, on small screens and when zoomed in.

Automated checks do not find every problem. We have not yet tested the website with disabled people or had it audited independently.

What we’re doing to improve

We will fix problems as we find them or as you tell us about them, and we will review this statement at least once a year.

This statement was prepared on 2 October 2026. The website was last tested on 2 October 2026.
